The Tammenterho guidance centre was founded in 1995 and used to be located along Rantapromenadi at the entrance to the island. After the premises located in the boatyard area were transferred to the tugboat company Alfons Håkans in June 2016, the guidance centre moved to the premises of the Botanical Garden of the University of Turku. At the same time, the guidance centre was renamed to Ruissalo Info.
Managed by the City of Turku, Ruissalo Info serves residents and tourists in the garden’s main building by offering information about the unique nature and current events on the island of Ruissalo. There are also changing exhibitions in the seminar hall of the main building that can be explored freely.
The symbol of Ruissalo Info is the hermit beetle – a large species of beetle living in the holes of oaks and other large deciduous trees. In Finland, it can only be found on Ruissalo and a few other places within the city of Turku.
